Wei of Life Massage & Bodywork
Jacqui has been practicing massage therapy for 12 years, and have been a massage instructor for 8 years at Asia Pacific Massage Institute. After massage school she started training in traditional Thai massage at "Touch of Thai." She experienced working with a chiropractor learning more about human anatomy and chiropractic treatment, then working at Nordstrom Spa for a few years before completely practicing on her own at Wei of Life massage. She is experienced in extensive range of massage modalities working with men, women, children, and everything in between. She's a trusted massage therapist of many Houstonian families for over a decade now. In 2016, Jacqui had the opportunity to be a part of a cross- country bike ride fundraiser "Pursuit for dis- ABILITIES" raising 13 millions dollars for "The Center" here in Houston. She donated countless hours of massage to fundraisers in her community since the beginning of her practice. Jacqui is big on servitude and grounded. This trait is instilled in her from a very young age and has been the foundation of growing her practice. Her practiced grew from word of mouth and her clients are referral- based.
Vivienne "Wei" is Jacqui's daughter, whom she lost the day after she was born. "Wei" means extraordinary in Chinese. She has been the inspiration behind the name "Wei of Life" and the butterfly symbolizes the transformational journey that we all go through in different stages of life. Most of all, for Jacqui, the butterflies symbolizes her children: Jacob, Sophia, Mia and Vivienne. Jacqui also had her fair share of mis-carriages, something us women rarely talk about. This is why she is very passionate about what she does, caring for women and children, because she has known pain and suffering from a very young age. Through her life experiences she's gained important life lessons and tremendous amount of empathy that makes her valuable and functional massage practitioner and instructor.
"My massage story started with with my grandmother. I remember as a young girl, when we used to have sleepovers with my cousins over the holidays, having grown up in a big family, my siblings, cousins and I would sleep on the living room floor because there's no room big enough to hold all of us in, I would wake up to my grandmother giving us head and scalp massage while we were asleep. She would do this to every single one of us every night! Why she did it? Well we all used to think she did it to make us smart! But what I know for sure is that, in that moment I felt deeply loved. Massage has been a part of our culture as far as I can remember. As a child, whenever we got sick, we would see a "manghihilot or mangtatawas" (medicine woman) before we can even make it to the doctor's. That was just the way it was and still is. It's our way of life.
Fast forward, my life journey brought me to America. First to Hawaii then California and finally to Houston. It's here in Houston where I re-discovered massage again. So I put a holt on my nursing path and redirected it towards massage therapy school. When I was in class, It reminded me of why I love massage. It's rooted in me, not only in my culture but my very own core memory of being deeply loved. And so I haven't stopped my journey since then.
In my quest of healing myself from past traumas, I rediscovered massage therapy. Recreating that feeling of being loved that I felt from my grandmother giving me a massage, that's what I try to share and re-create with my clients. The sense of well being - we could all use that. Being of service to others has brought me closer to fulfillment and self- healing more than anything. I'm convinced that what I do not only make people feel good and help them connect with their own body - mind - spirit, it is also very healing and rewarding for me. I can't imagine doing anything else."
